I have same problem. Dell Inspiron N5010, ATI 5650 card proprietary drivers. I leave laptop turned on and I find it frozen after few min ( 1min blank screen, 5 min standby ). Screen is completely blank ( like turned off ), processor seems to be in some kind activity ( fan is working hard ). Ctrl Alt F1 does not work. 2.6.35-25-generic x86_64 GNU/Linux Btw, when I manually activate standby it works correctly.
