I'm having the same problem here, with all 2.6.15*686 kernels so far, on
a thinkpad x40 and on a desktop pc with an intel desktop board. My palm
pilot is a tungsten w.

I noticed that when hal isn't running, I can sync perfectly with pilot-
xfer or jpilot without any kernel crashes, with or without bluetooth
started and the rfcomm module loaded.
