I can confirm this issue as I have have run into this recently in 10.10.
It seems that VLC has taken the job of file browser (anything which
opens a folder now does it in VLC). However I doubt this bug is to be
reported against the linux kernel. It should instead be directed to
nautilus and/or vlc package.
