OK, in the first place do: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core-dbg and log out and in again. Then run "glxinfo" to see if it crashes. If not, then try "compiz --replace". After the crash, attach the new Xorg.0.log.old, /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/gdm/\:0.log.1
