** Package changed: Ubuntu Natty => biosdevname (Ubuntu Natty) ** Description changed:
- [I'll reassign this bug to the biosdevname package once it passes - through NEW.] - - Availability: Currently in NEW. Will be available for amd64 and i386. + Availability: Will shortly be available for amd64 and i386. Rationale: Implements physical network interface naming as discussed in: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-n-network-stack Security: No matches in Mitre or Secunia. Installs a binary in /usr/sbin, whose behaviour depends on hardware information exposed by the kernel. QA: Works out of the box, but should not currently be installed by default as it will cause network interface names to change. The plan for this package is to include biosdevname-udeb in the installer, configured off by default; if the boot parameter biosdevname=1 is passed to the installer, then physical network interface naming will be enabled during installation, and the biosdevname package will be installed on the target system. Dependencies: Nothing exotic. I had to add a libpci3-udeb to the pciutils source package, but that's just a new binary. Maintenance: Not yet in Debian, although I hope to get it uploaded there once I have some time. Until then, I'll maintain the Ubuntu package and pay attention to its bugs, essentially as an installer feature. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/723870 Title: [MIR] biosdevname -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
