Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

I can no longer install software with software-center following the
latest system updates that were downloaded. I am on Ubuntu 10.10. It
asks me to insert a password to validate, which I do, and then it closes
out the password box and hangs with the validate screen open. Reboot
hasn't fixed the problem. Can't install any software as of now, even
via terminal either, as the software-center process seems to still be
active.
