I have the same bug on an ASUS K50IE The touchpad works again after I plugged my usb mouse or when I deactivate then activate the touchpad with Touchpad-Indicator 0.6.4. I tried to add to the kernel option i8042.nopnp like in the french documentation http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/touchpad#le_pave_tactile_ne_fonctionne_plus It doesn't work either.
