The fact that it sometimes work and sometimes not point me to a race /
timeout issue, probably at the level of pppd.
Does it work properly if you try to use wvdial to connect to your
provider and use the settings for that provider you get from the NM
connection settings?
Also, please try to stop NetworkManager (sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager
stop), then start it again with the following command:
NM_PPP_DEBUG=1 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon
Then reproduce the issue and attach the logs to this bug report.
