The packages don't need to be installed to be listed in '/var/lib/dpkg/available'. The 'ffmpeg' and 'qt-faststart' packages where still listed after I purged them. I also don't think it has anything to do with dependencies. For some reason the version checking has been set more strict last week (don't ask me why). I also have other packages with SVN in the version number listed in '/var/lib/dpkg/available', but the 'ffmpeg' and 'qt-faststart' packages where the only ones that start with SVN.
Did you check the versions of your 'libxen3-dev', 'cnews' and 'libxen3' packages in your /var/lib/dpkg/available and compare them to the packages listed at http://packages.ubuntu.com/ ? Your *xen* packages are part of the Xen hypervisor and seem to be of an older version than listed in the natty repo. And 'cnews' is a local Usenet news server that hasn't been in the ubuntu repo's since hardy, the version 'cr.g7-40.2' does start with a non-digit. If you don't need the packages, consider uninstalling/purging them and removing the entries for the packages from '/var/lib/dpkg/available'. Below are the entries for 'ffmpeg' and 'qt-faststart' as they where listed in my '/var/lib/dpkg/available' Package: ffmpeg Priority: extra Section: checkinstall Installed-Size: 74152 Maintainer: user@machine Architecture: i386 Version: 4:SVN-r25753-1 Provides: ffmpeg Size: 31194578 Description: Package created with checkinstall 1.6.2 Package: qt-faststart Priority: extra Section: checkinstall Installed-Size: 2108 Maintainer: user@machine Architecture: i386 Version: 4:SVN-r25753-1 Provides: qt-faststart Size: 458720 Description: Package created with checkinstall 1.6.2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727043 Title: [ Natty ] dpkg 1.16.0~ubuntu1 warn on installation -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
