Public bug reported:

Feisty 7.04:
I updated my Ubuntu today (friday 13,april) by cliking the update-manager icon
on the toolbar. The update seemed to complete w/o errors.

The problem is that the machine will not boot after this update.
The update process obviously created a new "/boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic"
file.

$ ls -l /boot
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  414210 2007-04-13 01:24 abi-2.6.20-14-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root   83234 2007-04-12 22:50 config-2.6.20-14-generic

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6931514 2007-04-05 18:22 initrd.img-2.6.20-13-generic

initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic.bak    <----------  old
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6590355 2007-02-14 18:31 initrd.img-2.6.20-6-generic

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1745100 2007-04-13 01:24 vmlinuz-2.6.20-14-generic

My normal boot-entry in the "/boot/grub/menu.lst" is this:

title Ubuntu 7.04 BETA, kernel 2.6.20-14-generic (on /dev/sdb3)
root            (hd1,2)
kernel          /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-14-generic
root=UUID=35606f29-4636-4a6e-89e2-e7db49e9317f ro
initrd          /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic
savedefault

NOTE: If I change the "/boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic" to
"/boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic.bak" in the GRUB-menu then Ubuntu boots
normally & OK.
