I think that we're going to need a valgrind log on this one. The
symptom is unref'ing a NULL variant. But, the about_to_show code
doesn't deal with the variants directly and the other cases are all
handled cleanly. This must be happening with the callback itself, but I
can't find where anyone is registering a callback for about_to_show() in
the service especially.
