@Torsten- I cannot reproduce the problem on my T61 with the Natty 2.6.38-5.32 kernel running on a native Natty system... On native Natty, the external VGA display doesn't look entirely proper in the "external monitor only" mode (looks like bad graphics tiling), but I don't experience any X hang or any of the drm messages you're getting there with the backport kernel on Lucid. I'm always able to continue cycling through the Fn-F7 modes, and the LCD-only and clone modes usually look correct (occasionally even they end up with bad graphics tiling).
I am aware that the 2.6.38-5.32 kernel contains a regression relating to graphics tiling (bug 728672) on Intel GPU's. The fix for that has just been applied to the Natty kernel source, as well as other Intel graphics fixes -- lets wait and see how the next Natty kernel (2.6.38-6.33) fares. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728271 Title: 10.04 LTS with natty-backports from PPA: single external display problem -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
