We appreciate the issues you're facing, however this is not a problem
with NetworkManager but with the router's implementation of DNS and/or
DHCP. It should probably advertise the local DNS cache it has rather
than the ISP's DNS, and respond appropriately to DNS requests from
clients.
This is obviously moot if you use a PPPoE connection instead, but
judging from your description it's not the case -- internet connection
would go through the router and out to the ISP's equipment.
Marking Invalid: unfortunately, there is nothing to be done at the
NetworkManager level to have it react differently. As an alternative,
you may wish to manually set the DNS servers to your router and keep a
copy of the IP addresses of the systems you need to access with their
names in the /etc/hosts file on your computer.
