I created a new user on this system and logged in - now the panel/launcher was visible and everything works, so there's probably still some configuration file in $HOME that I missed.
One of the problems is of course that many files get loaded at login and get "restored" to the filesystem at logout, even when nothing changed. I could rant about that horrible design flaw for hours, but instead I am resigning to simply remove files without logging into the desktop, and then logging out and back in to see if something changed. Without luck so far. I also made a screenie of the problem as it is now. ** Attachment added: "screenshot exhibiting the issue, background visible instead of panel" https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/687660/+attachment/1899879/+files/2011-03-11-004609_1024x600_scrot.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/687660 Title: Empty desktop after login -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
