** Description changed: Well, this is kind of a "macro bug report", as it is pointing to a problem on Natty (Alpha 3 + daily updates) affecting various applications using the "old" notification area system, instead of the - ney indicator-applet system. See (among others maybe) these reports: + "new" indicator-applet system. See (among others maybe) these reports: Dropbox: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-application/+bug/704833 Wine: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/718992 Quake: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/guake/+bug/725804 Of course, everyone hope that all applications will use the newest and shiniest things, like the indicator applet system. But If, for any reason, an application can't/won't use the (new) indicator-applet system and still relies on the (old) notification area applet, this should work well with Natty (or at least, if it doesn't work out of the box, users should have the option to make it work, in order to have the notification in the upper bar). I suspect that there are still various useful applications that have not made the switch to the indicator- applet system... In other words, users/developers need a transition period and the traditional notification area should be available on Natty, one way or the other. (BTW: traditional (old) notification system appears to still work on Ubuntu Classic desktop, KDE and XFCE...) Thanks.
