the log grows very quickly (was heading towards a megabyte after less
than one minute.) , during which no interaction with the touchpad was
done.

symptom: when dragging finger across to move pointer, when finger lifts,
pointer jumps to somewhere else... sometimes the pointer is constantly
shaking, moving around small mounts, sometimes, it appears to be
constantly clicking, so drags are all click drags, and cannot do normal
drags any more. sometimes cursor will not move, or will only move along
one plane (hz or vt.)
sometimes turning the keypad off and on helps.
this is natty alpha3, but was working on maverick sept. to December,
then started breaking
