I have the problem: 2.6.20-(14|15) do not boot. My hard drive is a SATA one so devices are already sdx. 2.6.20-13 boots fine.
all i can see is that the computer freezes while setting up sata stuff (at the kernel level, removed quiet and splash in grub cli), it's at approx. 3 secs after grub.
