Btw, did unloading vbox make any sort of difference?

I notice there have been a few other bugs reported with the same error
codes as this one, but with the stock kernel.  It makes me wonder if
perhaps the freeze you've seen is unrelated to the freeze that the
vesafb kernel solved.  But it's hard to tell.
