Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-package

I have a Tascam DP-01FX Digital Analog Workstation (DAW) for recording
audio. It has a USB interface for exporting WAV files that I've used
successfully on Ubuntu versions up to 10.10. After upgrade to 11.04
Alpha 3, the device will not connect, although other USB devices, e.g.
USB drives, work OK.

The DAW device works on 2.6.37-02063703-generic but fails on
2.6.38-6-generic with the following messages in /var/log/syslog when the
device is connected:

Mar 15 09:45:25 calder kernel: [ 531.160150] usb 2-3: new high speed USB
device using ehci_hcd and address 4

I've searched many bug reports and tried suggestions like disabling
ehci-ecd, cold boot with complete power removal and trying different
cables. These don't make a difference. I believe I've isolated the
problem to 2.6.38 series kernels and can consistently have the device
connect with 2.6.37 but not 2.6.38. I tried the daily build of 2.6.38
(14th March 2011) and that fails.

Judging by other bug reports with similar error messages on previous
kernel releases, I would think that this is likely to affect other USB
devices.
