Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

I build a custom kernel using the linux-source, mainly to get LIRC
module support built in for my MythTV box. On the latest update of the
linux-source-2.6.20 package (2.6.20-15.25), the kernel that I have built
is causing a machine check on boot during disk discovery. The error
looks like a bus timeout and run through mcelog is as follows

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/mythtv# mcelog --k8 --ascii < mycrash1
HARDWARE ERROR. This is *NOT* a software problem!

I have not changed any hardware on this system, and have successfully
been building and running 2.6.20 kernels with Fiesty for this machine
for several weeks. I backed up to the last working (for me) linux-
source package and rebuilt the kernel using the _exact_ same modules
(NVIDIA and LIRC kernel source) and .config file. This was linux-
source-2.6.20 (2.6.20-14.22). The machine boots fine with this kernel.
I reitterate, the only difference between the non booting kernel and the
booting one is that I built them using the two different versions of the
linux-source package. Everything else was held the same. Note that in
both cases, the .config file is an exact clone of
/boot/config-2.6.20-15-generic, with no modifications.

There is not much status from the crashing condition, since it occurs so
early in boot. I'd give a serial trace, but I don't have a null modem
cable handy, and this motherboard requires I add a PCI slot header to
access the serial port. Instead I will attach a jpeg of the crashed
screen.

I will attach the normal kernel debug info from a boot of the working
kernel (2.6.20-14.22), which should be the same for the broken one
(2.6.20-15.25).

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
