Binary package hint: bind9-host
root@net1:/etc# strace -e open host foo 2>&1 | grep /etc
open("/etc/ld.so.cache", O_RDONLY) = 3
open("/etc/resolv.conf", O_RDONLY) = 6
No attempt to access /etc/host.conf or /etc/nsswitch.conf so all commands
(host, dig, etc.) hang
in the resolver code if the bind service is stopped.
