I had the same problem after installing Linux Mint 10 KDE today. With
the kernel from the installation dvd (2.6.35-22) everything was alright.
After upgrading to the new -27 kernel, however, the Nvidia kernel module
could not be loaded by the kernel and x not be started. As it turned
out, the headers for the new kernel had for some unknown reason not been
installed when I did the update. A manual installation of the headers
fixed the problem, the driver is loaded correctly now and everything
works as it should.
