I have the same problem on my Acer 1830tz
It's an ALPS Glidepoint Multitouchpad.
In Maverick 64bit Its just recognized as an PS/2 Mouse,

I tested the latest natty alpha last week. In Natty It is recognized
additionally.

So i had in xinput --list the PS/2 Mouse AND the ALPS Glidepoint both attached
to the master core pointer,
only the events of the psmouse were bound to the master pointer.
but the ALPS was not working anyway:
I disabled the PS/2 Mouse in the xorg-config files After this the pointer won't
work anymore, no kernelmodule is loaded, no synaptics neither evdev. I tried
both drivers in the xorg config. i tried to load the modules manually. xinput
--test gives me no output for the ALPS only for the PS/2 Mouse. It seems that
none of the drivers works with this touchpad properly.

if you need some more information or testing please contact me i will
help as much as i can.

best regards felix
