Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: compiz
Since I did allow the update manager to upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 (?) to
current DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS" (taken from /etc/lsb-
release), the system seems to be a bit instable.
Especially these 2 things do happen multiple times per week now:
1) After booting the system in the morning firstly, I can not switch between
my virtual desktops, unless I do restart my laptop (only logging out and in
again -to restart the Xserver only- seems to be removed from the available
choices). In addition, while unable to switch virtual desktops, other strange
things do happen (like application crashes, unexpected behaviour while moving
windows and so on).
Notes:
* I do use a dual head setup with docking station and external monitor, to
switch from laptop display to the external one - using xrand as follow: xrandr
--output LVDS1 --off --output VGA1 --auto
(Using both displays at same time was difficulty before the update to 10.04
already, because both displays do have different resolutions and I do need on
the external device the highest possible one.)
* Before updating, the system did remember last state - now (in every case) I
had to start this command manually.
2) Using an IMAP mailfolder with the new Thunderbird (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U;
Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.14) Gecko/20110223 Thunderbird/3.1.8) I experience
often (but not always) problems while moving one email from inbox to some
subfolder.
Notes:
* This problem does NOT resolve by restarting.
* I'm not sure if this is a problem of Thunderbird or the mail provider or
the interactive process between the two. So this point is for completeness only.
