** Description changed:

Currently trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS in a VMWare 4.10 machine via
CD-R.
a few seconds into install I get the error:
[ 44.175422] kernel panic- not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

  It then freezes.
Several times it did not display this error but only said
  "segmentation error"

Earlier while trying to install off the saved .iso before burning it I
  got the error:

  [22.269676] init[1]: segfault at 4 ip 00000004 spbff1e034 error 4 in
  libc-2.11.1.so [110000+15000] [22.270849] kernel panic- not syncing!
  Attempt to kill init!

This is a VMWare ESXi Version 4.1.0
running on an AMD Opteron Processor 165
  showing 3.2 GB memory

Virtual datastore is using VMFS 3.46
  Maximum file size 256GB
  Block size 1MB

+ While I am getting this error on my VMware version 4.1 machine,
+ a different machine running VMware ESXi 3.5.0 was able to successfully
install Ubuntu 10.04LTS without any error messages etc.
+ I'm going to make a post regarding this on the VMware forum.
+
I am fairly new to Virtual Machines and Ubuntu sorry if I left anything out.
Please let me know any addition information that can help!
