The other system I found that exhibits this problem is a Dell Latitude E6410 with Intel graphics.
Running kernel: Linux ubuntu 2.6.35-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Sun Sep 19 20:34:50 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux I also tested with a Lucid (10.04) LiveCD, and, as we've been observing, it resumes successfully with that version (kernel 2.6.32-21.32). I'm attaching lspci, dmidecode and lshw information, please let me know if anything else is needed.
