We need to evaluate the situation in the latest released kernel, can you 
install it by clicking on the links in this exact order:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.38-rc8-natty/linux-
image-2.6.38-020638rc8-generic_2.6.38-020638rc8.201103081151_amd64.deb

If, after the installation of this new kernel system don't work well, you can 
easily remove it by pressing left shift during boot time to show grub window 
and select to boot the old kernel, then when system is up remove the newest 
from synaptic.
If the resume problem still present, please attach here, using the button 
below, the files:
/var/log/kern.log
/var/log/kern.log.1
