Binary package hint: unity
When a notification is about to appear, icons near the top of the
launcher are blacked out and a group of icons about two-thirds of the
way down have a lighter background. Windows are not generally affected,
despite the appearance of the screenshot. The effect is very short-lived
(probably < 1s) and once the notification appears, the launcher goes
back to normal.
