OK, I had been changing URLs (bar "suggestion") from ".com" to ".co.uk" and 
that was working fine.
Which ever way it is fixed, FF should be using the correct localisation from 
the get-go like it does under Windows and I am still puzzled why the "en-GB" 
settings point to the USA engine (rather than "google.co.uk" or using "gl=uk").

It's a minor annoyance and easily solved by the user although the
neophyte may be hesitant to go editing XML files.
