Hi Tim,

Thanks for following up on this but in the end the issue was resolved by
upgrading to a later version of Ubuntu (which didn't exhibit the same
bug/issue). I never did get Ubuntu 8.10 to run properly on my (ageing)
Lenovo A31 laptop.
