Your bug report shows that you previously had grub2 installed and
replaced it with grub1 without configuring grub1 for use as a
bootloader. Without configuring it, it's not possible to complete a
kernel update. Either you need to configure grub1 for use, or you
should reinstall grub2 by running the following command from a shell:
sudo apt-get install grub-pc
