While dpkg can throw out errors about decompression, this can only happen during --unpack and not during --configure. The error message is clear, the problem lies in one of the programs executed by the the post- installation script. There's only update-initramfs in there so that must be the culprit. It's also coherent with "initrd=/casper/initrd.lz" which is lzma-compressed.
