I happen to also have an file with asampler data from before the mic
started working. Maybe this could help. Thanks anyway for getting right
to this. In any case, I have to now just figure out how to turn of the
mic-input being directed straight to the speakers/headphones. iv

[apport] gnome-volume-control crashed with SIGSEGV. This was after endless
fidling suddenly got my mic working. Nothing to do with the settings. It
suddenly just came on, and changing settings afterwards didn't effect that! Odd.
