If dpkg fails with a SIGSEGV, it has no chance to report any failures
since it's instantly killed. It happens that apt asks you to fix up the
situation with "dpkg --configure -a" but it's not broken if it properly
ask you to run this.

Can you show us what the failure look like ? (And reset the status to
new in that case)
