That's basically correct. The mouse moves, but nothing responds. It is
as though some window has grabbed the mouse cursor, but there is no such
window present.

The effect is evident after everything has loaded. The desktop looks
normal, but nothing responds. I can switch to a console, though I have
always "fixed" the problem with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, so I don't know
which process is holding the mouse. No process is using up CPU time.

The two times it happened under Edgy were both in the last couple of
weeks. I don't know of any configuration change or software installation
that would have caused it. Though it happens quite infrequently and I
know how to deal with the problem when it occurs, a less savvy user
would be completely lost as to what to do. Thus I would say that it is a
very serious, but infrequent, problem.
