Hi, The only sound available, in fact, is just a beep, when some error occur. If your machine doesn't have an internal "PC-speaker", maybe you can configure your system to connect the beeps to the soundcard, I'm doing this here, in Gnome, for example, it's a very simple task. Or maybe you simply "forgot" to switch on your PC beeps in your sound mixer. Could you confirm that?
