I had the same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 and Geeqie.
Installing ccsm and enabling "Legacy Fullscreen support" fixed this issue for
me.
Additional info:
My notebook is an ASUS K52JT (intel core i5 with ATI 6370 graphics proprietary
drivers ), but this issue also happened on my lenovo t61 thinkpad with intel
graphics (open source drivers).
Ubuntu Release: fresh ubuntu 10.10 install 64bit desktop version with the
latest updates installed.
