Well, on my SL500, none of the maverick kernels 2.6.35-22-generic to
2.6.35-28-generic resolved the problem.  When it fails, it locks up and
eventually the fan starts going full throttle.  After sitting like that
for a while (possibly overnight), it often has to be hard powered off
before turning back on.  I assume the system is overheating at that
point.

About a week ago I installed the lucid-updates kernel 2.6.32-30-generic
, and I've not seen the issue since.
