I had and fixed the problem as discussed here. I have ASUS hardware. It turned out that ASUS has it own installed software that has a bug, that they do not provide source for, and that they have no intention of fixing or supporting for anything other than windows. If you black list the ASUS software atk0110 , everything works fine.
