This installation had failed when I had booted into Ubuntu using the live CD and then tried installing Ubuntu. Later, I was able to successfully install by rebooting and choosing to install Ubuntu using the Text only option. Guess it was a freak failure, sorry for the false alarm. Appreciate the time taken to respond to this issue.
