so where should it be tracked / reported ? it is a bug, if you need a hole project to solve it doesn't change that imo. the search function isn't useful if you can't really search anything with it i.e if you already have to know how the thing is called you can also use commands instead, it's quicker. Maybe it should be called seek function or something instead ;) is the description of the application/package not part of the application metadata? in there are lots of keywords :)
Could you point me to those efforts underway? why are they moving slowly? why doesn't this have more priority? what does "long-term" mean? as in "next release"? i think this issue is really important to make unity usable and this bug should not be simply put off as invalid. Personally, I know my way around anyway, but avarage joe may not and get a bad impression of unity beacause of some missing metadata that hinders him to find the needed applications or get frustrated on the way to it.
