I understand the desire to have it work that way for recording,
conversion, or streaming. May I suggest, then, that either VLC should
display a message rather than silently closing the media, or that those
controls in the Open dialog be moved under "Show more options". I think
controls that lead to advanced, unexplained behaviors shouldn't be
exposed by default.
