After doing a quick test page the duplex printing worked correctly. That
puzzled me, as I didn't change any printer settings from OOO, but could
not see the paper-size I originally reported ("A4 AutoDuplex 210x297mm")
listed in the settings dialog.
That made me dig a little deeper. The Deskjet 995C has a USB and
Bluetooth connection. Currently the printer configuration on the PC only
uses the USB connection *BUT* previously I had been using only the
Bluetooth connection.
I created a new printer using the Bluetooth connection in system-config-
printer and chose the now non-default hp-cups driver ("HP Deskjet 995c,
hpcups 3.10.2"). OOO's printer settings dialog now offers "A4 AutoDuplex
210x297mm".
Printing using the Bluetooth + hp-cups with all duplex options enabled
results in two sheets being used and no duplex printing.
So, it looks as if this is linked to bug #657357. When the printer was
attached via the USB cable the good HPIJS driver was selected by
default.
As this is running on 10.04 LTS I'm not aware that the patches in bug
#657357 have been back-ported so it's hard to explain how/why the
original Bluetooth driver was configured using hp-cups - maybe it was
manual user choice but after all this time, I can't be sure.
Packages installed are:
$ dpkg-query -l {system-config-printer*,hplip} | egrep '^ii|un'
ii hplip 3.10.2-2ubuntu2.2
un system-config-printer <none>
ii system-config-printer-common 1.2.0+20100408-0ubuntu5.2
ii system-config-printer-gnome 1.2.0+20100408-0ubuntu5.2
un system-config-printer-kde <none>
ii system-config-printer-udev 1.2.0+20100408-0ubuntu5.2
