Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: compiz
Using compiz 0.9.4 on Natty Beta 1, I see constant i915 wakeups when the
desktop is idling.
This occurs whether running compiz in Unity or Ubuntu Classic desktop sessions.
To test, I log in, disable wireless and open a single gnome-terminal
window, in which I run powertop, then leave alone. Nothing on the screen
is changing except powertop in the terminal.
"i915 <interrupt>" always shows between 8 - 40 wakeups per second. It
tends to hang around the 8-per-second mark, never dropping below, and
frequently increasing to around 30. Compiz itself does not show up. At
no point is there any interaction or visual change on the desktop except
in the terminal window.
I don't see this when running without compiz, in either Unity 2D or
Ubuntu Classic (no effects).
I also do not see any wakeups at all when performing exactly the same
test on Maverick (using compiz version 0.8.6), so this is a power-
sapping regression.
The machine is an Intel Atom N450 with intregrated GMA3150 gpu.
It's possible this is related to bug #681696, however in that bug it is
compiz itself that causes the wakeups rather than i915. Also apparently
that bug is fixed.
** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
