Yes after scanning around this does appear to be similar. After doing some digging around on goggle it appears that you can not use the ATI fglrx catalyst drivers on Ubuntu 11.4 either... no support for the 2.6.38 kernel yet. ATI have provided some advance ports of their yet to be released 11.4 drivers to canonical that may improve the situation if you do not own a cayman HD GPU.... which unfortunately I do :-(. Indeed today I pulled a Ubuntu proprietary fglrx driver update so you may want to do a couple of synaptic driver updates and see if that fixes your issues.
Until then it sounds like you have a HD 6XXX series card from ATI you will be stuck in 2d until Ubuntu 11.10 or until ATI release catalyst 11.4 which 'may' support the 2.6.38 kernel that 11.4 now comes with. This is not a good start for Ubuntu and Wayland\Unity ! ... Having said that the 2d Fall back worked OK, and ATI always has been a complete pain in the ass with their Linux and Xorg version support.... always so late you wish you'd bought Nvidia ..... ... This is sooooo annoying seeing as ATI presented Open CL to my Bank as a replacement for Nvidia CUDA .... what a Joke ! ATI can not even get their LInux drivers ready. Perhaps ATI do not realise that people like me will try the API and HW at home before even dare suggest it as a solution in the office. ATI...Fail. Wayland .....hummm...watch this space ... could be a game changer for Linux! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748150 Title: Ubuntu 11.04 Beta fglrx black Box when rendering Windows Unity HD 6970 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
