After the freeze, I rebooted the computer and did a fsck on the destination
partition (EXT3) called /dev/sda4. There were no problems on the partition.
  Here is the log:

root@pc1:/# fsck -v /dev/sda4
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
e2fsck 1.41.11 (14-Mar-2010)
/dev/sda4: clean, 421/8609792 files, 19321030/34427295 blocks
root@pc1:/# fsck -v -f /dev/sda4
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
e2fsck 1.41.11 (14-Mar-2010)

The file I was trying to copy is present on the destination partition
but incomplete i.e. with a smaller size than the original.
