Thought I'd add some more information as 11.04 is the first version since 8.10 that has worked on this particular PC, so I am very grateful to you developers for that.
The problem has been a 'whiteout' after installation, so while the installer worked ok, but when rebooting for the first time I'd see the splash screen, then the screen would fade to white with lots of thin vertical white lines that take over the screen on top of blurry patterns like you see when pressing an LCD display. Very strange. I seen to remember managing to fix 9.04 for a while by using the previous version of the intel drivers (2.4?), as there were others with i865 problems at the time and this fix was suggested. In the end just went back to 8.10 for the performance. With Natty, everything seems fine when logging in, the desktop loads but the distortion around the clock is noticeable. Almost like the bottom third of the font is shifted horizontally. Then after a few seconds the Crash dialog appears and if I close it just comes back, I now just move it out the way. Occasionally artefacts will appear/disappear on buttons, e.g. in synaptic, and as I mentioned, similar problems in Libreoffice (which can be cured by a minimise/maximise if required) Hope something in that helps you! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748088 Title: i865 GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x02000004 - immediately after login -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
