Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new

This bug has been nagging me for a while now. It started on Edgy, and I
became fed up with it, thinking maybe it was my hardware, so I switched
back to Dapper. Now I switched to Feisty, and its back!

On to the symptoms:
Whenever I load anything that uses 3D graphics or OpenGL, my computer freezes
(hard), including
   -Beryl
   -Compiz
   -glxgears

Sometimes I can run for hours with Beryl, but other times, it struggles
to run for a minute before hard-locking, requiring me to reset my
computer manually.

This bug has also been observed on nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-new on both
of the newer feisty kernels.

EDIT: I don't know if this is connected to this bug, but I though it
might help troubleshooting. Sometimes I experience system instability of
the whole OS. For example, if I am ripping a DVD or other processor
intensive application. MEncoder frequently exits with "Error 139".

** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
