I am getting this problem reliably, though not always with the same
applets.
A sample xsession-errors:

** (gnome-panel:1701): WARNING **: panel-applet-frame.c:1310: failed to get
Bonobo/Control interface on applet OAFIID:TimerApplet:
Unknown CORBA exception id: 'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0'
That last warning takes a long time to appear - presumably the COMM_FAILURE is
a timeout.. The panel does not appear while waiting, and the offending applet/s
(in this case, the timer applet) is/are not present when it finally does.
Any suggestions on how to collect more useful information on this?
