Public bug reported:
After an update, I am experiencing it in the guest under Virtual Box.
The host is the same version of Ubuntu, but 64-bit.
Due to some unclear cause, the keyboard stops working.
The guest is in fullscreen mode.
Unplugging and plugging the USB connector does not help;
but if I manage to switch to another host desktop, and start
terminal or switch to existing terminal window, and press there
a key, everything works. I switch to the fullscreen guest,
and it works.
Finally, I have discovered what triggers this effect: pressing Alt-Tab in the
guest. After Alt-Tab, the keyboard stops working. What's even more interesting,
is that I see only the Google Chrome icon and cannot switch to anything,
although
I have 8 windows open on the current desktop, and 3 on the other (see the
screenshot;
I could not make a screenshot while holding the Alt-Tab key, you will have to
believe me).
So this most likely is related to the task switcher.
As to the exact configuration, today is 7 Apr 2011, both the host and the guest
are
configured to automatically update every day, and I do allow them to do it
every day.
So the state of the system is the most recent one.

Please note that there's a bug about Karmic marked as invalid, so probably this
affects Karmic too:

I cannot tell if the reporter experienced the same problem or a different one.
